Vena II
Building on the strengths of its predecessor, the Vena II is an exceptionally neat and convenient way to bring true high-fidelity sound to the varied nature of modern music collections from vinyl and CD to digital streaming and hi-res files via all manner of playback devices. The Vena II is small and compact when compared to other amplifiers in its class, so it will sit tidily into a range of environments.
Sabre32 Reference DAC Chip
The Vena II contains Sabre32 Reference DAC chips that are top class if implemented effectively. If the circuitry that surrounds them it is not of a sufficient standard, the sound output can seem a cold and harsh, however, if implemented effectively the level of musical expression that these chips extract from the digital signal is captivating.
Hi-Res
For high-resolution file compatibility, the first Vena maxed out at 24-bit/192kHz PCM via USB. However, the Vena II stretches this to 32-bit/384kHz, with DSD (up to DSD256). Therefore, this the amplifier is completely equipped for todays high-resolution formats, and future advances in ultra-high-definition digital sound.
High-Spec Amplifier
The amplifier in the Vena II is an AB class with an upgraded power supply, and new 200VA toroidal transformer at its heart. Also, a 2x15000uF reservoir capacity (30000uF in total), ensuring the amplifier to maintain firm control of the music with excellent dynamic range. For lovers of Vinyl records, you will appreciate the addition of a MM phono stage, a high-quality, low-noise, JFET-based circuit with precise RIAA equalisation.
Headphone Users
Headphone listeners have also been considered. The first Vena included a headphone output, but via the amplifiers main output stage rather than a specialised headphone amp circuit. The Vena II has a dedicated headphone amplifier with current-feedback circuitry, with its gain bandwidth and high slew rate it gives a more dynamic, detailed and engaging performance with all types of headphone.
Wireless Streaming and Inputs
For connectivity options the design team at Quad selected Bluetooth wireless streaming, with support for the aptX codec, to ensure easy pairing with smartphones, tablets, PCs and Macs. The Vena II may feel like a traditional hi-fi amplifier, with its uncomplicated and simple front-mounted controls, however it’s specification marks it out as a state-of-the-art piece of equipment. The inputs for digital sources comprise asynchronous USB and three S/PDIF sockets (one coaxial and two optical), whilst digital outputs are optical and coaxial types. Analogue signals are covered by three stereo RCA inputs: two line-level and the new MM phono input. The addition of pre-out sockets allow for the addition of an external power amplifier.
